Nurse Educator
Job Summary
Clinical Nurse Educator provides professional development and education services in the clinical setting by assisting nurses in preparing for contemporary clinical practice and supporting them in acquiring the knowledge and skills required to competently collect patient health data, analyze data to determine nursing diagnoses, identify expected outcomes individualized to the patient, and develop a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain the expected outcome.
SPHP practices theory-based nursing that is evidence‑based utilizing a shared governance model for decision‑making.
- Involve learners and key stakeholders in learning needs assessment, formulate expected learner outcomes, establish the educational plan, and evaluate the effectiveness of the education plan.
- Use adult learning concepts and instructional design principles when planning activities.
- Employ strategies to facilitate positive learning and practice environments.
- Use various educational strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners and promote critical thinking and reasoning skills.
- Conduct initial and ongoing assessment of competence of nursing personnel.
- Highlight the benefits of and opportunities for life‑long learning and demonstrate skillful use of technology to enhance the teaching‑learning process.
- Show enthusiasm for teaching, learning, and nursing that inspires and motivates nurses.
- Provide timely, constructive, and thoughtful feedback to learners and evaluate educational activities on an ongoing basis including participant feedback and attainment of learner outcomes.
- Disseminate evaluation results and maintain required documentation of all educational programming in accordance with organizational requirements.
- Work with others to identify problems and solutions, using an evidence‑based approach to facilitate the initiation, adoption, and adaptation to change.
- Apply improvement processes such as Lean thinking to effect practice change and exhibit creativity and flexibility through times of change.
- Serve as a resource by assisting nurses in identifying problems, available internal and external resources, and selecting options.
- Foster ongoing professional growth experiences for nurses and others, and provide guidance and support to nursing personnel involved in new hire/transitional orientation programs.
- Participate in organizational committees and/or shared governance councils.
- Practice skilled oral and written communication, establish collegial working relationships with nursing staff, leaders, and other disciplines to promote positive patient outcomes and professional nursing practice.
- Integrate ethics in all areas of practice, monitor the integrity of educational activities, and identify and address ethical issues within the learning and practice environment.
- Implement program and project plans, participate in quality initiatives, and disseminate research findings through educational programs, courses, and other activities.
- Use the best available evidence to guide practice decisions, support the integration of research into practice, and develop staff members’ knowledge and skills in the research process.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- Current New York State RN license.
- BLS certification.
- 2–5 years of clinical experience.
Pay range: $42.00–$55.46 per hour, based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary within the stated range based on location.
