The Physician Assistant (PA) is a credentialed position required to function in and practice in an expanded specialty. The PA has the responsibility and accountability for the assessment and management of patients, including ordering diagnostic tests, consultations, therapeutic interventions and the daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. The PA provides comprehensive health care tailored to the needs of the patient population, including assessment, diagnosis, prescribing, and referrals where appropriate.

The PA works in collaboration with MDs and the multidisciplinary team, enhancing patient choice and complementing physician roles. The PA augments a physician’s ability to provide medical services, collects and documents data, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies, and provides direct patient care services.

• Apply knowledge of anatomy, neurology, microbiology, physiology, psychology, human disabilities, pharmacology, gerontology, human growth and development, human developmental disease, and medical terminology as appropriate in an urgent‑care setting and according to the level of medical licensure.
• Conduct patient assessments and complete physical examinations, collect clinical data including vital signs, collect specimens, prepare patients for tests, therapy, or treatments, order and interpret medical laboratory test results, diagnose medical conditions, administer medications or treatments, and perform minor surgery.
• Apply knowledge of the information and techniques required to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities, including symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health‑care measures.
• Staff the outpatient addiction medicine clinic in conjunction with attending physicians.
• Round and coordinate care for the inpatient consult service for patients admitted to other services (Trauma, Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN).
• Coordinate care for emergency department patients presenting with opioid use disorder and related complaints.
• Work with attending physicians to provide clinical support and education for providers caring for patients with opioid use disorder.
• Collaborate with community partners to enhance access to medication‑assisted therapy for opioid use disorder.
• Complete accurate patient coding for effective billing, maintain detailed patient medical reports, and maintain inventory of medical supplies and instruments.
• Serve as a resource and team leader during clinical shifts to ensure smooth flow of patient processing, treatment, and discharge, including patient triaging.
