Neurosciences & Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) - D5N

Work Shift:

Night (United States of America)
Salary Range: $88,192.00 - $The clinical Nurse contributes to the creation of a compassionate and caring environment for patients, families, and colleagues through displays of kindness and active listening. D5N is a 21‑bed neurosciences unit with one level of care that treats patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, brain tumors, aneurysms, seizures, traumatic brain injuries, neuromuscular diseases, and other neurologic diagnoses.

The unit includes 7 EMU beds for seizure disorder patients who are electively admitted with anti‑convulsant medications held, hard‑wired to continuous EEG for seizure localization and potential surgical mapping.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Implements physician orders, administers medications, starts IVs, performs treatments, procedures, and special tests, and documents treatment as required by company policy and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient conditions.
  • Assesses and evaluates patient needs and responses to care rendered.
  • Applies sound nursing judgment in patient‑care management decisions.
  • Provides primary and emergency care for occupational and non‑occupational injuries and illnesses.
  • Administers over‑the‑counter and prescription medications as ordered.
  • Collaborates with the nursing team to create a plan of care for all patients.
  • Directs and guides ancillary personnel and maintains standards of professional nursing.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of a professional academic nursing program in which a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor’s degree is conferred.
  • Must hold a current NYS Registered Nurse license.
  • Obtains and maintains certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of clinical RN experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of telemetry or ICU experience.
  • Ability to improve job performance through continuing education.
  • Possesses knowledge of quality concepts, principles, and problem‑solving tools and demonstrates ability to apply them in support of departmental and patient‑care quality improvement.
