The Department of Urology at Albany Medical College is seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our busy and collaborative pediatric urology practice. This position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive outpatient pediatric urologic care in a supportive, team-oriented environment.
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (NP/PA) provides comprehensive healthcare services to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. The NP/PA assesses patient health status, diagnoses illnesses and injuries, develops treatment plans, prescribes medications, and promotes preventive care. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, the NP/PA ensures high-quality, family-centered care in accordance with established clinical guidelines and professional standards.
Position Highlights:
- Full-time, Monday-Friday Schedule
- Clinic hours: 8:00am – 4:30pm
- Upon completion of onboarding and training, four 10-hour days may be available
- Primary Sites:
South Clinical
-Albany, Clifton Park and Niskayuna Campuses - Average 18-20 patients per day once fully trained
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic pediatric illnesses and conditions.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory studies.
- Prescribe medications and therapeutic interventions as permitted by state regulations.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment and care plans.
- Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Educate patients and families regarding health conditions, treatment plans, nutrition, growth, development, and disease prevention.
- Respond to patient and family questions and concerns in a professional and compassionate manner.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate care.
- Document patient encounters accurately and timely in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
Additional Responsibilities
- May perform in-office newborn circumcisions subject to credentialing, training and departmental policies.
- Assess newborns for procedural eligibility and identify contraindications prior to circumcision.
- Obtain and document informed consent from parents or legal guardians.
- Provide pre-procedure education and post-procedure care instructions to families.
- Manage routine post-procedure follow-up and address minor complications.
- Recognize and respond to procedural emergencies or complications, facilitating higher-level care as needed.
Qualifications:
- Licensed and actively registered as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in New York State
- Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program
- Familiarity working in electronic medical records; EPIC experience a plus
- Ability to collaborate effectively across various departments to ensure cohesive, patient-centered care and a positive work environment
- Ability to maintain HIPAA and patient confidentiality
