The Nursing Program within the College of Integrated Health Sciences at the University at Albany is a rapidly growing pre-licensure nursing program. The program is distinguished by its emphasis on immersive, clinically integrated education beginning in the first semester and prepares students for professional nursing practice through innovative classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical experiences. The program incorporates advanced educational technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-centered support systems to promote academic success, clinical reasoning, and NCLEX readiness.

Housed within one of the most diverse public Research 1 universities in the United States, the College of Integrated Health Sciences provides extensive experiential learning opportunities through its close partnerships with the New York State Department of Health and Albany Medical Health System. The College also conducts impactful research aimed at improving health and wellness and reducing health inequities in New York State, the nation, and across the globe.

• Teaching
  • Provide direct clinical supervision and instruction for undergraduate nursing students in Fundamentals of Nursing and/or Medical-Surgical Nursing clinical courses.
  • Supervise groups of up to eight (8) nursing students during each clinical rotation.
  • Facilitate clinical experiences ranging from six (6) to eight (8) hours per clinical day in inpatient and selected outpatient healthcare settings.
  • Guide students in the application of the nursing process, clinical judgment, patient safety principles, therapeutic communication, medication administration, health assessment, documentation, and evidence-based nursing care.
  • Promote development of professional behaviors, critical thinking, prioritization, delegation, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Collaborate with clinical coordinator and course faculty to ensure consistency of clinical instruction and student evaluation.
  • Complete student clinical evaluations, attendance records, and grading requirements in a timely manner.
  • Facilitate pre-conference, post-conference, and clinical debriefing activities.
  • Incorporate simulation-based learning experiences, as appropriate, to enhance clinical judgment, patient safety, communication, and nursing skill development.
    • Clinical instruction may include simulation experiences conducted in the University’s simulation laboratory and/or through virtual reality (VR) platforms.
    • In accordance with New York State regulations and program requirements, simulation experiences may account for no more than thirty percent (30%) of required clinical hours.
  • Ensure compliance with nursing program policies, clinical agency requirements, and professional standards of practice.
  • Serve as a positive professional role model and mentor for nursing students in clinical settings.
• Service
  • Attend required clinical instructor orientation and course meetings.
  • Maintain communication with course coordinators, lead faculty, and clinical agency personnel regarding student performance and clinical operations.
  • Complete required university and clinical agency onboarding, compliance, and training requirements.
• Scholarship/Professional Development
  • Maintain current New York State RN licensure, BLS certification, and clinical competence.
