Location: City of Albany
The Research Scientist 1 (Water Pollution) supports the Monitoring and Assessment Section of the Bureau of Water Assessment and Management in researching harmful algal blooms, developing water quality monitoring tools, and analyzing water quality data from New York State lakes and streams. The role splits time between applied research and data analysis (50%) and programmatic support including field sampling, grant administration, and online reporting tool development (50%).
Keyqualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental sciences, biology, limnology, or related natural resources field with two years of professional research experience
- Experience with study design and analyzing chemical, physical, and biological environmental data
- Knowledge of limnology, aquatic ecology, water resource management, and harmful algal blooms
- Experience with data analysis tools such as R, GIS, SQL, and database management
- Excellent communication and organizational skills with ability to work in field conditions
