The Office of Institutional Research and Data Analytics (OIRDA) seeks a Student Assistant to support SUNY's Institutional Research Collaborative Services initiative. Through this initiative, OIRDA provides participating campuses with support for data analysis, reporting, dashboard development, survey, and applied research on student populations, community demographics, and regional labor markets.
The Student Intern will gain hands-on experience with higher education data and public datasets related to population trends and demographics. The intern will support Collaborative Services projects by helping campuses use demographic and higher education data for planning, reporting, and decision-making. This may include developing campus-specific reports and visualizations, supporting meetings and follow-up materials, and assisting with related data, survey, research, and project tasks.
This position is a strong fit for a student interested in data analytics, applied research, report writing, public policy, or higher education research.

Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demographic Analysis:
- Support the extraction, cleaning, combining, and reporting of SUNY and other data (e.g., Census, WICHE) used in campus-level demographic reports.
- Contribute to drafting campus-level reports, including visualization development, summaries of methods, findings, and key takeaways.
- Maintain documentation, methodology notes, data definitions, and reporting procedures.
Campus and Project Support:
- Support Collaborative Service meetings through note taking, presentation preparation, and follow-up materials.
- Assist with ad hoc data requests, survey analysis, research questions, and project tasks related to IR Collaborative Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at a SUNY institution.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated interest in research, data analysis, or data visualization.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Coursework in education, market research, statistics, economics, public policy, sociology, geography, information science, data analytics, business analytics, computer science, or a related field.
