The Research Scientist 4 (Toxic Substances) serves as Chief of the Exposure Assessment and Reduction Section within the Department of Health's Bureau of Toxic Substance Assessment in Albany. This position leads a team evaluating public health risks from chemical exposures and environmental hazards, provides scientific guidance on exposure assessments, and represents the Department to partner agencies and the public on environmental health matters.
The incumbent manages all section programs, including grants, project implementation, and staff supervision.
- Bachelor's degree in toxicology, environmental health sciences, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, epidemiology, immunology, industrial hygiene, or pharmacology
- At least five years of relevant post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field
- Ability to critically evaluate and interpret scientific studies and data
- Experience conducting human health risk assessments
- Excellent written and oral communication skills for both technical and general audiences
- Strong supervisory and organizational skills
