The New York State Museum seeks a Museum Scientist 3 (Curator of Bioarchaeology) to work within the Office of Cultural Education's Anthropology Department. The curator will provide osteological expertise under the Unmarked Burial Site Protection Act and Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act, manage the museum's human remains collection, conduct independent research, and develop public programming and exhibitions. The role includes potential supervision of lower-level staff, grant development, and assistance to law enforcement in human remains identification.
Keyqualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and four years of professional experience, or Master's degree and three years of professional experience, or doctoral degree and one year of professional experience
- Ph.D. in archaeology with experience in New York bioarchaeology preferred
- Experience curating a museum collection in bioarchaeology
- Experience conducting fieldwork in bioarchaeology
- Experience with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and repatriation
- Understanding of the NYS Unmarked Burial Site Protection Act
