Location: City of Albany
A Research Scientist 1 in Virology will support the Viral Encephalitis Laboratory within the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Wadsworth Center in Albany, New York. The role involves developing, performing, and maintaining clinical PCR and RT-PCR assays for viral detection in human specimens, conducting validation experiments for new assays, and participating in quality assurance activities. The position requires a bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences with two years of post-degree professional research experience in an appropriate field.
Keyqualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Natural Sciences with 2+ years of post-degree professional research experience
- Experience with molecular methods for viral pathogen detection and characterization, including next-generation sequencing
- Experience developing or assessing molecular methods
- Experience handling human pathogens
- Strong written and oral scientific communication skills
