Honest Weight Food Co-op Temporary Plants Associate (Seasonal)Purpose: To keep displays, racks and shelves fully stocked, watered, and rotated. Provide prompt, friendly and courteous customer service.
Status: $17.00/Hour
Availability needed for 5:30 am Market Shift, midday shift, sunset Closing Shift, plus weekends.

ReceivingJob Responsibilities
- Assist with market runs and deliveries
- Help with loading/unloading as needed
- Assist with stocking, rotation, and watering
- Check in and sign for deliveries. Note any discrepancies, product damages, or adjustments on the invoice
- Cull, rotate, and replenish displays following established stocking priorities
- Remove damaged product promptly, after notifying the Plants Department management
- Keep the outside Plants Department retail and storage areas in a clean, orderly condition
- Clean racks/bouquet displays inside the store, when needed
- Pay attention to potential floor hazards such as wet floor areas or debris on the floor
- As needed: WATER!
- As needed: clean/sanitize surfaces, utensils, buckets, and sinks
- As needed: consolidate empty pots/plant trays; store them in the Plants Department section on the building side
- As needed: remove trash
- As needed: flatten boxes and take to cardboard baler
- Label items accurately with price stickers
- Assist with Stock Count for both Inventory and for Order Placement
- Check signage for correct PLU, price, and origin
- Report any shrink and pricing anomalies as per department procedures
- Manage displays to maintain bountiful and pleasant appearance throughout the day
- Manage displays to maintain clear separation between organic and conventional plants
- Manage displays to maintain shopper friendly categories such as herbs, vegetables, fruits, flowers, etc.
- Assist customers with questions in a prompt, friendly, courteous manner. If you cannot answer their questions, find another staff member to assist them. If no one is available, take down their contact information in the Plants Department notebook kept at the outside work station.
- Offer information on planting, growing and care of plants and flowers
- Record and process special orders according to department procedures
- Answer Plants Department phone and answer customer questions
- Unlock the outdoor Plants Department area gates
- Check all plants for water; watering as needed, as plants are pulled out for display
- Pull out the carts/plants to be used in the front/side displays; utilize the wooden blocks to break
- Set up the front/side areas according to the general plan left at the work station or verbally communicated by Plants management
- Check the work station for all forms (Flowers/Veggies/Soils, etc.); make more in the office area as needed
- Leave Plants Department outside areas (retail, prep and storage) in clean and orderly conditions
- Clean/sanitize surfaces, utensils, buckets, and sinks
- Remove trash
- Flatten boxes and take cardboard to baler
- If asked, properly cover cut flowers and store in cooler as per department procedures
- Monitor overnight temperature / weather forecast:
- If conditions will be hostile, plant racks must come inside the building or possibly be just covered
- If conditions are favorable, plant racks store in the Plants Department building side area
- Lock gates for outdoor side Plants Department area
- Assist with set-up and break-down of Plants Department as necessary
- Operate Produce/Plants Truck for market runs
- Oversee the watering of outside plants, along with the Plants Department Management

Position Requirements Qualifications- Demonstrated reliability in attendance and timeliness; must have weekend availability
- Ability to follow directions and multi-task

- Familiarity with plant varieties/classifications

- Basic arithmetic skills
- Familiarity with basic office computer functions including spreadsheets, email, internet
- Experience with computer Point-of-Sale systems a plus
- Ability to safely and consistently lift 60 pounds throughout a shift
- Ability to work shifts with constant standing throughout work day and frequent kneeling, squatting, bending, reaching
- Demonstrated diligence in cleaning
