Assistant Geologist / Geologist Trainee - NY HELPS (4 Positions)

NYSDEC Division of Environmental Remediation is hiring 4 geologists for their Albany office.

Geologist Trainee, Grade-18 ($
66,951
): bachelor's degree or higher in earth science, engineering geology, environmental geology, environmental geosciences, geochemistry, geological engineering, geology, geological science, geophysics, or hydrogeology.

Assistant Geologist, Grade-20 ($
81,193
) : bachelor's degree or higher in, earth science, engineering geology, environmental geology, environmental geosciences, geochemistry, geological engineering, geology, geological science, geophysics, or hydrogeology,
AND proof of passing the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology (FG) examination.

The successful candidate will serve as a project manager overseeing state-funded and privately funded remedial programs at a variety of sites across New York State. Duties include project management in all project phases including site investigation and remediation for projects in programs such as the State Superfund (SSF) program, Brownfield Cleanup Program (BCP), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) program, and the Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) program.

MGP sites are located statewide, while the BCP and SSF sites are primarily located in Region
3. Duties will include the technical review of all site documents, including workplans, RI/FS reports, design documents, and reports to assess compliance with New York State policies and regulations; drafting factsheets, decision documents and records of decision; interaction with remedial parties, property owners, the public, governmental agencies and municipal leadership; oversight of remediation sites, remedial consultants and contractors; review of site conditions and data to assess the nature and extent of contamination;

evaluation of remedial alternatives and remedy selection; review of remedial designs and implementation of selected remedies; and monitoring of remedy effectiveness. The project manager is expected to manage multiple projects while prioritizing workload. Some field work may involve working around heavy machinery such as drill rigs and construction equipment. Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) – based software a plus.

Additional duties will be discussed during interviews. Travel Percentage: 30%
