Industrial Hygiene Specialist

Role Overview

Arcadis is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Specialist for its Sustainable Operations team in Albany, NY. This role involves approximately 75% fieldwork and 25% office work. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with asbestos, lead‑based paint, hazardous building materials, indoor air quality, mold, industrial hygiene exposure monitoring, building characterization assessments, soil and water sampling, project oversight, and report preparation. Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience and hold the required licenses and credentials.

Arcadis will provide specific training.

• Complete inspections, bulk sampling, abatement oversight, air monitoring and assessments of various projects, including manufacturing plants, warehouses, public and private buildings, schools, and residential homes.
• Assist with project scoping, proposal preparation, and report writing using Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Conduct asbestos and lead‑based paint surveys and support abatement projects, indoor air quality and mold investigations, mold and water damage remediation, ventilation assessments, and development/removal of health and safety plans (HASPs).
• Perform field inspections and surveys for asbestos, lead, mold, water intrusion, indoor air quality and other regulated building materials.
• Coordinate with agencies, management, staff, and subcontractors to define project scope and schedules.
• Conduct advanced technical surveys and oversee subcontractor work.
• Accurately document field activities using provided tools.
• Review, interpret, and evaluate field observations and laboratory data.
• Prepare technical memoranda, summary reports, and other client deliverables.
• Receive technical and business mentorship from senior team members.
• Mentor and support junior staff within Industrial Hygiene group.

• Bachelor of Science in a science‑related discipline or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in professional services or consulting.
• State‑specific asbestos training and licensure.
• Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos and related materials.

• OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training.
• Asbestos Safety Technician (AST) license in New Jersey.
• Experience with report preparation.
• Industry‑recognized certification in industrial hygiene (e.g., CIH, IHT) or indoor environmental or air quality consulting (e.g., CIEC, CIAQP).
• NIOSH 582 training.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and with a project team in a fast‑paced environment.

• Willingness to travel, including overnight trips and weekends.
• Valid driver’s license, able to pass a medical exam, and medically cleared to wear a negative‑pressure respirator.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs of equipment during an 8‑hour shift.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. Salary range is $64,800 – $97,200, varying by experience, education, budget, and location.
