Executive Protection Specialist
Position
Description:
The Executive Protection Specialist supports Albany Med Health System's Protective Services Unit by providing discreet protective services, secure transportation, site assessment, and logistical support for system leaders, guests, events, and sensitive organizational activities. The role requires exceptional judgment, professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and the ability to maintain a calm, service‑oriented presence in dynamic environments.
Work Schedules will vary and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended days based on organizational needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide discreet protective support and secure transportation for designated system leaders, guests, and other approved individuals during work‑related travel, meetings, events, and assignments.
- Maintain situational awareness and identify potential safety, security, logistical, or reputational concerns.
- Conduct site advances, route assessments, and event reviews for meetings, travel, and high‑profile activities as directed.
- Coordinate security, safety, logistical, and transportation planning in partnership with Protective Services Unit leadership and other internal departments.
- Protect the confidentiality of schedules, travel plans, locations, routes, and other sensitive organizational information.
- Identify vulnerabilities and recommend appropriate security, transportation, or logistical improvements.
- Respond professionally and appropriately to safety concerns, disruptions, or potential threats.
- Support planning and coverage for high‑profile meetings, community events, executive travel, board‑related activities, and other system priorities.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams and, when appropriate, local, state, and federal law enforcement partners.
- Maintain a high degree of discretion, professionalism, and respect for privacy while allowing assigned leaders and guests to conduct business with minimal disruption.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by Protective Services Unit leadership.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Sixty college credits preferred; an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Prior experience in law enforcement, military, executive protection, protective services, intelligence, public safety, or a related security field required.
- Prior experience providing secure transportation or executive‑level security support preferred.
- Emergency Vehicle Operations Course training required.
- Experience working with senior leaders, public figures, high‑profile guests, or individuals requiring discreet protective support preferred.
- Ability to conduct off‑site advances and assess locations, routes, access points, and potential vulnerabilities.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- High degree of dependability, flexibility, and professionalism.
- Ability to work independently while remaining aligned with Protective Services Unit protocols and leadership direction.
- NYS Armed Security Guard License required upon hire.
- Valid NYS Driver License required upon hire.
This role may require frequent standing, walking, driving, situational monitoring, and the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances. The position may also involve occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and other physical activity consistent with protective services responsibilities.
Working ConditionsWork may occur in clinical, administrative, community, event, travel, and outdoor environments. The role may require exposure to noise, weather conditions, crowds, traffic, and other variable conditions. Schedules may change based on organizational priorities, travel needs, events, or security considerations.
Confidentiality and Professional StandardsThis role may require access to sensitive information, including schedules, travel plans, internal operations, patient‑related environments, and other confidential information. Workforce members are expected to follow Albany Med Health System policies and applicable federal and New York State requirements related to privacy, confidentiality, and information security. The Executive Protection Specialist is expected to maintain the highest level of discretion, professionalism, sound judgment, and respect for privacy at all times.
