Location: City of Albany
Responsibilities
- Supervise and work along with a composite crew of highly skilled and semi-skilled employees providing technical direction in the construction of and maintenance of the State-owned buildings and properties.
- Observe and inspect work in progress and when completed to ensure specific codes and regulations are followed, materials and equipment are used properly, schedules are met, and work is performed according to plan.
- Interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and job specifications to determine labor and material requirements. Order materials, supplies and assign appropriate staff.
- Meet with supervisors of the other shops involved in the project to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to ensure the effective utilization of staff, materials, equipment and completion of the project on schedule.
- Utilize the AiM work management system to track project progress, supplies, work hours and costs.
- Prepare written performance evaluations and probation reports of subordinate staff, perform written and verbal counseling when needed, and ensure all staff training requirements are met.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required.
- Ability to use the tools of all building trades.
- Experience in estimation, blueprint, drawing reading and code interpretation.
- Asbestos Supervisor certification required within 90 days of appointment as well as compliance with all related PESH/OSHA regulations.
- Successful completion of forklift training within 90 days of appointment.
- Experience in Microsoft Project, Microsoft Outlook and AiM.
- Knowledge of multiple trades, means, and methods.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
One year of trade experience after the completion of an apprenticeship; OR equivalent training and experience required for Trade titles such as:
- Trades Specialist (Carpenter)
- Trades Specialist (Electrician)
- Service & Repair Mechanic (Electronics)
- Trades Generalist
- Grounds Construction Supervisor
- Trades Specialist (Locksmith)
- Trades Specialist (Machinist)
- Trades Specialist (Mason & Plasterer)
- Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment)
- Trades Specialist (Painter)
- Trades Specialist (Plumber & Steamfitter)
- Service & Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R)
- Trades Specialist (Roofing)
- Trades Specialist (Welder)
Candidates are required to provide specific, verifiable information about their qualifying experience and/or coursework with their resume.
Acceptable Proof- Experience:
A letter on letterhead from your employer that includes the names and titles of supervisors, the duties performed during the training period and specific dates of employment. - Appropriate coursework: A copy of their transcript or listing of course work completed.
- A copy of a trade’s union card.
Per Agreement between the Civil Service Employees Association, Inc. and the State of New York, Article 45 (d) the requirement to prove qualification shall rest with the employee. Candidates who do not submit appropriate documentary proof that they meet the minimum qualifications will not be considered for appointment.
