JOB SUMMARY

Technicians perform skilled, mechanical maintenance duties in the inspection, repair, installation, and alteration of District heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Technical College Diploma in Air Conditioning Technology or related field;
  • Five (5) years of verifiable heating, ventilation, and air conditioning mechanical experience;
  • Read, comprehend, and interpret mechanical and control drawings, schematics, and technical specifications;
  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools of the electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, and other trades is required;
  • A valid Georgia Driver's License and a good driving record;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of HVAC control systems, direct expansion refrigerant systems, and chilled water cooling plants and systems;
  • Knowledge of technology as related to specified job functions;
  • The ability to obtain and maintain certification to handle CFS is required. Current certification is preferred;
  • Ability to perform the essential physical job functions/responsibilities of the position.
  • PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Installs, services, repairs, and maintains heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems in district facilities;
  • Performs preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled servicing of HVAC equipment to ensure optimal system performance;
  • Diagnoses system malfunctions and performs mechanical, electrical, and control system repairs;
  • Installs and maintains air distribution systems, refrigerant lines, motors, compressors, valves, and related HVAC components;
  • Monitors and troubleshoots computer-based building automation and control systems to ensure efficient system operation;
  • Services equipment including air conditioners, heating units, refrigeration systems, freezers, ice machines, and ventilation systems;
  • Assists with the planning, estimating, and coordination of HVAC maintenance and construction projects;
  • Reviews technical manuals and system documentation to identify and implement effective repair solutions;
  • Maintains accurate documentation of work orders, labor hours, materials used, and maintenance activities;
  • Identifies potential safety hazards, system failures, or facility concerns and reports them promptly to the Maintenance Services Supervisor;
  • Assists in ensuring HVAC systems comply with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations;
  • Provides guidance and support to maintenance helpers, laborers, trainees, or assigned staff as needed;
  • Maintains assigned tools, equipment, and district vehicles in proper working condition;
  • Maintains a professional appearance and positive attitude while representing the district;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  • PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
  • Work is performed in school buildings, mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments;
  • Requires frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, kneeling, crouching, and reaching;
  • Regularly required to work from ladders, scaffolding, lifts, and elevated platforms;
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds and occasionally more with assistance;
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, electrical systems, mechanical equipment, noise, dust, chemicals, and refrigerants;
  • Requires the ability to operate district vehicles and travel between school and district facilities;
  • Must follow all safety procedures and use appropriate protective equipment when performing maintenance tasks.

    SALARY RANGE

    Twelve months. Salary in accordance with the DCCS Compensation Guide
