Job Title
Plan and schedule staff employees' workday/week, provide immediate supervision to average 7 to 10 mechanics and staff. Inspect all work performed by staff employees. Provide technical expertise and advice to mechanics. Monitor safety precautions throughout garage including functions performed by staff employees that include preventive maintenance and repairs to all motorized equipment assigned to Albany Division. Manage and oversee preparation of equipment being placed in service and surplus equipment being auctioned.
Manage necessary paperwork, such as work orders and procurement cards. Must be comfortable with computer programs and smart phone. Manage employee timecards daily and approve staff employees leave requests daily.
1. TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS FOR CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEES:
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as a Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) and is eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law. 2. PROVISIONAL PENDING EXAMINATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State Thruway Authority employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent competitive service as Service & Repair Mechanic Motor Equipment. QUALIFICATIONS:
If there are no more than three qualified candidates in the promotional field for this position, the appointing authority will request approval from the NYS Department of Civil Service to fill this position via a noncompetitive promotion (NCP) examination, pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. In order to be eligible for the NCP, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
One year of experience supervising staff engaged in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of gasoline and/or diesel-powered motor equipment, including passenger vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, freight and other commercial cargo vehicles, self-propelled off-road equipment, and non-self-propelled motor equipment. This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

Base Pay: $57,751 hiring rate up to $82,199 job rate Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000.
