About the role

The Counsellor, Waitlist & Triage supports child counselling services in the Great Southern, ensuring clients can access integrated and responsive services that are child‑safe, person‑centred, domestic‑violence and trauma‑informed. The role involves intaking referrals, providing brief intervention counselling to children, young people and parents/carers while awaiting specialist services, acting as the first point of contact for internal and external service providers, and managing children’s counselling waitlists.

Part‑time (0.5 FTE, 18.75 hours per week) max term position ending 30 June 2027. Working Tuesdays‑Thursdays in Albany.
Responsibilities- Intake and triage referrals for child counselling services.
- Offer interim brief intervention counselling to children, young people and families.
- Serve as first point of contact for service providers referring children/young people for counselling.
- Manage child counselling waitlists.
- Maintain accurate records and related administrative duties.
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social Science or Counselling.
- Eligibility for membership of the relevant professional association.
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication.
- Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of victim and perpetrator issues in Family and Domestic Violence and Child Sexual Abuse.
- Experience supporting individuals and families, preferably in family/domestic violence or child sexual abuse contexts.
- Experience working in culturally safe and responsive ways with clients from Aboriginal and other diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Best Practice Guidelines and Principles.
Current National Police Clearance valid within one year, WA Working with Children Check, and WA Driver’s Licence are mandatory for all staff.
