Description of Duties

The Center for Human Services Research (CHSR) at the University at Albany is seeking a full‑time Programmer/Analyst to develop, test, and maintain an array of web‑based applications. This position will apply foundational knowledge of software engineering, database administration, and application development to support, maintain, and enhance .NET/SQL Server data applications used by human service programs at CHSR.

Under the close supervision of the Senior Programmer, the incumbent will perform assigned development tasks, respond to support requests, implement application updates, and conduct testing and quality assurance activities. This position is open only to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and candidates currently residing in the United States. All CHSR positions are contingent upon continued funding.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information science, data science, software engineering, or a directly related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) or an internationally recognized accredited organization AND one year of relevant experience.
  • Foundational coursework and/or practical experience in software engineering, database systems, information security, computer networks, and data structures, as would be acquired through a bachelor’s degree program in computer science or a directly related specialty field.
  • Experience with Microsoft technology stack, especially Visual Studio, ASP.NET, and SQL Server.
  • Experience programming in C# and/or VB.
  • Experience working in SQL Server/Azure, designing data structures, and writing stored procedures.
  • Knowledge of object‑oriented development, program logic, and data flow.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two years of post‑degree professional or internship experience in software development and/or database administration, or a master’s degree in computer science, information science, data science, software engineering, or a directly related field from a college or university accredited by USDOE or an internationally recognized accredited organization.
  • Experience in database development in human services.
  • Strong communication skills that allow interaction with sponsors.
  • Experience working with the culturally diverse populations that comprise New York State.
Salary Range

$75,000–$85,000 annually.
