Position: [POOL] Instructional Aide 3

Responsibilities

Proctors and administers a variety of tests, schedules appointments for testing. Provides clerical, computer, and other support services to students with disabilities and staff.

  • Provides assistance and services to students when appropriate, such as proctoring tests, taking dictation or word processing (reading and/or scribing).
  • Coordinates schedules for student testing and ensures documented accommodations are provided as requested. Assists students with placement exams.
  • Prepares instructional and testing materials by scanning, copying, and/or formatting.
  • Assists students on computers in using various forms of assistive technology.
  • Assists individuals or small groups of students with understanding procedures for using disability services and accommodations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to accomplish the objectives of the position.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • May require hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
  • Requires good visual acuity to recognize alphanumeric characters.
  • Requires good hearing and well-developed speaking ability to communicate with staff and students.
  • Work is performed indoors with minimal exposure to health and safety hazards.
  • Considerable time is spent doing work at a computer and standing or leaning.
Education and Experience
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, plus a minimum of one year full‑time experience in a work or educational setting involving mentoring activities and/or set up/support of learning experiences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Desire and commitment to work with students with physical and learning disabilities.
  • Operational knowledge of general office equipment including personal computers.
  • Working knowledge of assistive technology is preferred.
  • Ability to perform the duties of the position efficiently and effectively.
  • Can respectfully communicate and work with diverse individuals.
  • Understanding the needs and differences of students, and appropriately respond to those needs.
  • Background in operations, policies and procedures for registration in an educational setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual ability is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

All Part‑time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee’s supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement.

Part‑time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.

LBCC offers a pay incentive to eligible employees who demonstrate proficiency in conversational Spanish when evaluated and formally certified by a college‑approved professional or agency. Eligibility to apply for and receive bilingual pay incentives for Spanish and languages other than English are subject to the provisions of Administrative Rule 6025‑06.
