Job Summary:
This pool has been established to accept applications for possible openings for part-time instructors that may arise throughout the year. The Physical Sciences Department at LBCC offers a wide range of courses including general science, astronomy, science, technology & society, chemistry for health occupations, general chemistry, organic chemistry, algebra-based physics, and calculus-based physics. The physics instructor develops, plans, and presents organized lectures, laboratory activities, and out of class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines.

Education, Training, and
Experience:
* Masters degree or minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in physics.
* Prefer one year broad-based teaching experience in a high school, community college, or university setting or comparable experience.

* Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

* Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to set up and operate equipment.
* Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students.
* Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment.
* Seventy percent or more of the job duties require standing.
* Work may be performed in classrooms and college science labs.
* Considerable exposure to safety or health hazards.
* May be required to work after hours or for special weekend events.
Essential Duties:
Applicants must possess a combination of academic preparation and professional experience that demonstrates the ability to:
* Impart excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of physics.
* Develop course schedules and syllabi.
* Plan, develop, and deliver classroom lectures and activities as well as write tests and develop other methods to evaluate student progress and competence.
* Develop or adapt interesting laboratory exercises designed to engage the non-science major.
* Practice and enforce departmental approved safety regulations in the lab room.
* Keep track of equipment at lab stations and verify that all equipment is left at each lab station in good condition at the end of each laboratory section.
* Plan, develop, and deliver brief pre-lab lectures and activities as well as evaluate student progress and competence.
* Practice and promote the practice of good laboratory technique along with end of lab clean-up.
* Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interact with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team.
* Communicate effectively in oral and written English.
* Keep accurate grade and attendance records.

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being "rolled" once per term, if eligible.
