Position: [POOL] PT Faculty, Sociology

Job Summary

This posting is for a pooled position. Applicants may apply to the [POOL] positions on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. Applicants must reapply annually to maintain active status.

Responsibilities
  • Teach General Sociology courses.
  • Act as a team member of the Social Science Department and Arts & Communication Division.
  • Communicate course objectives, grade according to objectives, and report student progress.
  • Work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages.
  • Establish and maintain opportunities for reasonable out-of-class contact with students.
  • Prepare course descriptions, outlines, and other material related to courses taught.
  • Establish and maintain a class roll, and teach in conformance with approved course outlines.
  • Participate in Student Appraisal of Classroom Learning.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.

Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Sociology or minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in Sociology.
  • Teaching experience, preferably at the community college.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively as a teacher and to operate as an effective member of a team.
Employment Requirement

Criminal background check - C4.

Salary and Compensation Information
  • Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New part‑time faculty begin at Step 1 of the pay scale, with steps being rolled once per term if eligible.
  • Compensation per hour for meetings, training, advising, curriculum development, or other related work.
  • All new employees are required to be compensated via direct deposit.
  • Offers of employment are contingent on the applicant having Oregon residency at the time work commences.
  • Employment is subject to completion of a post‑offer criminal background check.
  • Within three days of hire, the employee must complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s Form I‑9 confirming authorization to work in the United States.
