Job Summary
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for “[ POOL ]” positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. If/when a position becomes available, the College will review applications from this pool, and interview candidates whose qualifications best match the specific opening. Applicants must reapply to the pool annually to maintain their active status in the pool.
Works at the Writing Center during scheduled hours providing instructional support to students on an individual, drop‑in basis to help with any aspect of writing related to LBCC coursework.
May require good arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate keyboard and other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Requires well‑developed listening and speaking ability sufficient to carry on routine conversations. Work is performed in an open lab setting in the Library with minimal exposure to health and safety hazards.
Education and ExperienceApplications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
- Position requires successful completion of WR 121 with a B or above, and recommendation (either by letter, email, or phone call) of at least one English faculty member.
- Requires strong knowledge of college composition and rhetoric.
- Must be proficient with or nearing proficiency with grammar and mechanics, varieties of writing processes, and research strategies.
- Requires strong communication skills to interact with and tutor students with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of ability on an informal level.
- Requires the ability to perform the essential responsibilities of the position under limited supervision.
- Must have demonstrated ability to understand and interpret staff instructions in order to assist students and support colleagues.
- Requires the ability to understand the needs and differences of adult students and appropriately respond to those needs.
- Must be able to sensitively deal with students in helping with academic performance.
- Requires the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written English.
- Must be able to operate general office equipment, including computers for word processing.

Compensation InformationAll Part‑time Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step on the salary schedule is not negotiable. Step increases are subject to eligibility, and only take place at the end of the Fiscal Year in July if approved and submitted by the employee’s supervisor of record. Hours worked in more than one position or department cannot be combined for step advancement.
Part‑time Classified employees are paid once monthly, on the last day of the month.
