Instructional Assistant 1 (Accounting)
Job Summary
Provides assistance to students in their study of accounting. May demonstrate and instruct students in the use of computers and a variety of computer software, applications, and online homework sites. Maintains a positive, student-centered learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Performs specialized lab support for a variety of accounting courses, both on campus and virtually.
- Assists students in accomplishing assigned homework, preparing for exams, and completing accounting projects.
- Stays familiar with standard assignments and course requirements; maintains contact with faculty throughout the term.
- Encourages and promotes a supportive learning environment, promoting students’ self‑reliance, independent problem‑solving, effective learning strategies, and study skills.
- May provide assistance with the use of relevant technology such as spreadsheets and other computer applications within their area of proficiency.
- Meets regularly with the college’s Learning Center tutors and engages with relevant technology and protocols to support best tutoring practices; keeps records of student contact.
- May distribute feedback survey and end‑of‑course surveys as requested.
- May inform students about courses, center, or lab procedures.
- Completes scheduled training and attends meetings as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Requires the ability to operate computers and other office equipment, read words and numbers, have sufficient hearing, and communicate with staff and students. Work is performed in various campus learning centers or labs with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Some positions may require evening and/or weekend hours.
Education and Experience
- AAS in Accounting Technology or equivalent.
- Strong subject matter knowledge in the area of academic assistance provided.
- Skills interacting with diverse students with varying abilities, learning styles, and personalities.
- Knowledge of accounting subjects sufficient to help and support the instructional programs.
- Knowledge of Windows, Excel, and Quick Books.
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong subject matter knowledge in the area of academic assistance provided.
- Skills in interacting with diverse students with varying abilities, learning styles, and personalities.
- Ability to independently perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
- Ability to understand the needs and differences of students and respond appropriately.
- Ability to shift between questions from different areas rapidly.
- Ability to operate general office equipment, including computers with word processing and spreadsheets.
- Working knowledge of instructional practices and techniques sufficient to tutor students on an informal level, including students with disabilities.
- Basic knowledge of LBCC curriculum and procedures.
- Current LBCC students familiar with LBCC courses may be given preference.

Salary
$18.25 per hour; non‑exempt, part‑time hourly position.
