Job Summary:
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for "[POOL]" positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. The Physical Sciences Department at LBCC offers a wide range of courses including general science; astronomy; science, technology & society; chemistry for health occupations; general chemistry; organic chemistry; algebra-based physics; and calculus-based physics. The physical science instructor develops, plans, and presents organized lectures, laboratory activities, and out of class assignments in accordance with approved course outlines.
Essential Duties:
Imparts excitement and enthusiasm into the teaching of physical science. Develops course schedules and syllabi. Plans, develops, and delivers classroom lectures and activities as well as writes tests and develops other methods to evaluate student progress and competence. Develops or adapts interesting laboratory exercises designed to engage the non-science major. Practices and enforces departmental approved safety regulations in the lab room.
Keeps track of equipment at lab stations and verifies that all equipment is left at each lab station in good condition at the end of each laboratory section. Plans, develops, and delivers brief pre-lab lectures and activities as well as evaluates student progress and competence. Practices and promotes the practice of good laboratory technique along with end of lab clean-up.
Works effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and ages and successfully interacts with supervisors, colleagues, and staff as part of an education team. Communicates effectively in oral and written English. Keeps accurate grade and attendance records.

Work is performed in an office or classroom setting with minimal exposure to safety or health hazards.
Education and Experience - Applications are reviewed for minimum qualifications. In order to be considered, your application must clearly show you meet the minimum qualifications for this position. Master's degree or minimum of 27 graduate quarter hours in physics or 27 graduate quarter hours in chemistry. Prefer one year broad-based teaching experience in a high school, community college, or university setting or comparable experience is desired.

Courses are paid on a per-credit basis. New Part-time Faculty begin at Step 1 of the payscale, with steps being "rolled" once per term, if eligible.
