This posting is for a Federal Work Study position. To be eligible for Work Study positions you must maintain enrollment in at least six (6) credits at LBCC , maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better (some positions may require a higher GPA ), and have financial aid in place.

Assists teaching staff with classroom management by:

• 1. Helping to maintain a safe and healthy environment for children.
• 2. Assisting with classroom and playground supervision of children while incorporating positive child guidance techniques. Assess child behaviors and the environment; making frequent decisions to ensure child health and safety.
• 3. Assisting with toileting, changing diapers and clothes, and supporting children in learning self-help skills associated with caring for their needs and daily activities.
• 4. Implementing and supporting the daily classroom activities such as mealtimes, free choice, story time and other related activities, following the lesson plan as directed by the Preschool Teacher.
• 5. Assisting with general classroom maintenance and cleaning which includes sweeping floors, disinfecting toys and furniture, replenishing supplies, duties and other related tasks.
• 6. Communicating positively with staff, parents, children and others.
• 7. Assisting the teaching staff with implementing a dual language classroom.
• 8. Helping the teaching staff with record keeping as assigned.
• 9. Ensure proper sanitation and food safety regulations are followed.
• 10. May perform other duties as assigned.
• 11. May perform the duties of the Toddler Assistant.

If the employee meets the State’s preschool Teacher Aide I qualifications or higher:

• 12. Assists with maintaining child/teacher ratios by covering teaching staff breaks, lunches and/or planning time.
• 13. The Preschool Assistant must be within sight and sound of a Preschool Teacher except when: accompanying children to the restroom, providing medical attention, monitoring an ill child waiting to go home, or supporting during rest time.

Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

• This position operates mostly in the classroom environment. In addition, there may be work outdoors intermittently.
• Job hours are determined by the work study award, and will be renewed as funds are granted to the individual.
• Pushing, pulling, and carrying supplies, cleaning equipment, and files, and other equipment in the range of 10-40 lbs.
• Frequent lifting, bending, twisting, sitting on the floor, squatting, and kneeling while assisting children or conducting janitorial responsibilities.
• Requires minimal technical ability with smart phone applications or computer skills.

• Must maintain enrollment in at least 6 credits at LBCC , maintain satisfactory academic progress throughout each term, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better, and have financial aid in place to be eligible to work in a Work Study student employee capacity at Linn-Benton Community College
• Ability and desire to work with children ages 2-6 years old; some experience is preferable Enrollment in Oregon’s Central Background Registry and active ORO account.
• Current First Aid/ CPR certification for adult, child, and infant (or acquired within 90 days from date of hire).
• Current Oregon Food Handler Card (or acquired within 30 days from date of hire).
• Completion of Safety Set as required by Oregon Certified Child Care Rules.
