Electrical Controls Engineer — Industrial Automation & Manufacturing Systems

A growing automation and systems integration organization is seeking a Controls Engineer to design and implement advanced manufacturing and automation solutions across diverse industries. Position Overview

The Controls Engineer will apply engineering principles to develop automation system designs, support project execution, and deliver innovative technical solutions. This role requires strong problem‑solving ability, technical initiative, and the ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships.

Key Responsibilities System Design & Engineering
  • Design system hardware architecture and layout
  • Select automation hardware and develop engineering designs
  • Create electrical schematics and interconnect diagrams
  • Design and implement motion control systems
  • Develop bills of materials and conduct design reviews
PLC / HMI / SCADA Development
  • Program PLC‑based control systems for industrial automation applications
  • Develop and configure HMI and SCADA interfaces for system monitoring and control
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and support control system performance
  • Integrate automation systems with manufacturing and data platforms
  • Work with industry platforms including:
    • Rockwell / Allen‑Bradley (Studio 5000, Factory Talk View)
    • Siemens automation platforms
    • Wonderware
    • Ignition SCADA systems
Software & System Development
  • Develop functional specifications and system documentation
  • Program automation and control systems
  • Perform system testing, validation, and quality control
  • Support factory acceptance testing and performance verification
  • Execute system commissioning, startup, and onsite acceptance
  • Provide operator and customer training
  • Deliver final project documentation including drawings and manuals
Technical Sales & Proposal Support
  • Collaborate with customers to identify challenges and define solutions
  • Prepare technical estimates and written proposals
  • Conduct research to support solution development
  • Provide technical input for sales and marketing initiatives
Project Execution & Customer Support
  • Support system integration and implementation activities
  • Maintain strong customer relationships and provide timely service support
  • Manage project deliverables and ensure accuracy of documentation
Professional Development
  • Participate in technical and project management training
  • Engage in continuous learning and skill development
  • Contribute to process improvement and innovation initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Experience with PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming in industrial environments
  • Knowledge of electrical design, motion control, and automation systems
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in process control, food and beverage manufacturing, or similar industries is a plus
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel to customer sites (approximately 20–30%)
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Passport for occasional international travel preferred
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Combination of office, manufacturing, and customer site environments
  • Exposure to industrial equipment and production facilities
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Physical activity may include standing, walking, climbing, and working around machinery during project startup and testing
