Responsibilities
- Staff the college-wide Student Help Desk, resolving students’ software and hardware problems and providing one‑on‑one and group coaching in digital literacy and advanced application use.
- Assist Librarian/Computer Lab Specialists on software and hardware projects; replace and configure hardware; maintain network, software, and equipment.
- Provide instructional and lab support to students using software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, internet searches, electronic mail, and other programs.
- Develop training aids, create signage for computers, and refer students to faculty as appropriate.
- Perform routine cleaning, maintenance, and minor repairs on computers and other equipment; assist with preventive maintenance and scheduled cleaning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Good arm, hand, and finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and office equipment.
- Ample hearing and speaking ability to communicate effectively.
- Visual acuity to read numbers and words.
- Ability to lift and move light to medium equipment (10–50 pounds), stand, sit, bend, stoop, and crawl.
- Work performed indoors in a busy library; activities rotate between sitting at a computer station and walking to student stations. Substantial time spent working at a computer; may include scheduled remote shifts.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Experience, education, or demonstrable knowledge in a computer or technical help desk field.
- Comprehensive understanding of computer operation and maintenance, including Windows, Microsoft Office, printers, scanners, wireless network, cloud storage, video conferencing, and email.
- Well‑developed interpersonal communication and customer service skills for a diverse community.
- Ability to maintain lab and equipment safely, instruct students on use of equipment and programs, learn new software as needed, and prioritize work amid interruptions.
- Preferred educational approach focused on autonomous learning rather than purely problem‑solving.
- Spanish language fluency is preferred.
- Criminal background check (C4).
