ATI in Millersburg, OR is seeking its newest team member for the EHS Department! The Byproduct Management Program Technician supports the Environmental Recycle Yard Operations Specialist in managing and coordinating all aspects of solid and hazardous waste at ATI Millersburg, including the Research Center, SLEP Pad, and Farm Ponds. Responsibilities include monitoring and organizing the movement, staging, cleaning, recycling, disposal, and final disposition of waste.

In addition, this role provides daily shop‑floor support, guidance, training, and auditing related to byproduct management. The technician will make decisions regarding recycling or disposal and direct other employees in waste management activities to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

Shift

Day Shift, Monday - Friday 7 AM to 4 PM with potential overtime and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure strict compliance with Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) solid and hazardous waste regulations.
  • Maintain inventories for hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams throughout the plant site and Research Center; coordinate shipments directly or through the Waste Specialist.
  • Perform waste shipment activities:
    • Container requirements for final disposal: closing to 49 CFR requirements, over packing when needed, weighing, and labeling.
    • Loading shipment for waste vendors and contractors.
    • Maintain compliance with Universal Waste Regulations:
      • Prepare batteries for shipment (sort, bag/wrap, and drum/box for transport).
      • Prepare light bulbs for shipment (sort, label, and drum/box for transport).
      • Prepare e‑waste for shipment (sort, palletize, and shrink wrap).
    • Operate oil stations and manage used oil.
    • Maintain compliance with Scrap Metal waste streams (sort, RAD, load roll‑off boxes, coordinate shipments).
    • Conduct plant pick‑ups as needed in support of the Plant Utility Operator (pallets, trash, drums, scrap materials, etc.).
    • Maintain housekeeping in the Recycle Yard (washdown areas, crushing drums, rinsing totes, draining oils, etc.).
  • Complete Environmental, Health, and Safety reporting.
  • Update and audit position‑related work instructions (WI), Standard Work Task Element Sheet (SWTES) documentation, and forms.
  • Identify and report process deviations; assist with diagnosing and correcting safety and process issues.
  • Complete special projects and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide guidance to operating departments regarding effluent management, discharge, and solid waste compliance.
  • Escort visitors as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support the Environmental Operations and Compliance Supervisor, as assigned, by completing compliance inspections and life‑threat program tasks (e.g., confined space, lockout/tagout/try, hot work, and line break permits).
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma and one year of industrial experience, or equivalent.
  • Strong judgment with the ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple activities in a team environment.
  • Self‑motivated with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to complete 40‑hour Hazmat training, respiratory fit testing, and forklift/industrial mobile equipment certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs daily.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to work in a heavy industrial environment with elevated levels of noise, dust, heat, and/or cold.
  • Ability to wear a ½ and/or full‑face respirator when required.
Additional Training Requirements (to be completed within 6 months of hire)
  • Oregon DEQ Hazardous Waste one‑day training
  • McCoy RCRA 40‑hour training
  • 49 CFR DOT Training
  • Maintain current status on all required training in ATI Connect

Salary Range: $48,000 to $62,000 annually +
