Summary
The X‑ray Reader trainee will develop and apply expertise in non‑destructive testing to ensure compliance with quality standards. Responsibilities include interpreting radiographic images, documenting results per technique cards, developing shooting techniques, and calibrating equipment.
Essential Functions
- Perform non‑destructive testing using radiographic images to determine casting quality and pinpoint corrections needed for discrepancies.
- Utilize instructions for radiographic inspections of castings through technique cards.
- Evaluate each image to ensure uniform accuracy and image quality.
- Visually inspect each casting to identify areas that require improvements in casting or welding.
- Find areas of frequently occurring imperfections and consult engineering or other necessary departments.
- Endorse radiographic reports to authorize complete, accurate inspections and documented findings.
- Develop shooting techniques as required.
- Calibrate equipment and inspect radiographic equipment.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understand all associated documentation and part routing procedures.
- Maintain high quality ratings while processing parts at an acceptable production speed.
- Work well with minimal supervision.
Education & Experience
- Team player and self‑motivated.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Compliance with general company attendance standards is required.
- High school diploma or equivalent GED required; candidates lacking this may be considered if they possess relevant experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Solid job history with at least 1 year at previous or recent employer.
- Willing to undergo a pre‑employment background check and periodic drug screening.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
Mental and Physical Demands
- Vision acuity meeting test chart and color‑perception requirements.
- Willing and able to work outside the department as required.
Work Conditions
- Work may be performed in noisy areas where odors may be present.
Relocation Assistance

Schedule
- Swing Shift Monday–Thursday (shift differential $1.00/hr).
