Bell & Associates has been engaged to help our client recruit their next Production Supervisor – CNC Machining. The Production Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision and coordination of approximately 10-12 CNC machinists and forge press operators. This position ensures work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with production schedules and quality requirements.
The Production Supervisor provides daily direction, coaching, and accountability for production personnel while serving as the primary link between production employees and management. This role is responsible for execution of the production schedule, workforce development, communication of priorities, and escalation of issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, or productivity.
ResponsibilitiesProduction Execution
- Direct daily activities of CNC machinists and forge press operators.
- Assign work and communicate production priorities based on the schedule.
- Monitor progress of jobs and ensure work is flowing through the shop as planned.
- Escalate schedule, material, equipment, quality, or staffing issues that impact production.
- Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance to resolve production issues.
- Execute production priorities and support achievement of customer delivery commitments.
Employee Leadership
- Provide daily supervision, coaching, and direction to production employees.
- Conduct employee performance reviews and provide regular coaching and development feedback.
- Conduct daily shift meetings and communicate expectations and priorities.
- Monitor employee performance and provide timely feedback.
- Address attendance, performance, and behavioral issues in accordance with company policies.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new employees.
- Develop employee skills through training and cross-training activities.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
Safety and Quality
- Ensure employees follow all safety procedures and company policies.
- Promote a safe and organized work environment.
- Ensure production personnel follow work instructions, drawings, and quality requirements.
- Participate in investigations and corrective actions related to quality and safety concerns.
- Support continuous improvement through identification and communication of opportunities for improvement.
Communication and Accountability
- Maintain clear communication between production employees and management.
- Hold employees accountable for completion of assigned actions and commitments.
- Communicate staffing, production, and operational concerns to management.
- Ensure accurate labor reporting and production documentation.
Performance Expectations
- Drive daily schedule adherence within assigned work centers.
- Ensure production priorities are clearly communicated and understood.
- Complete daily follow-up on open production issues and action items.
- Maintain workforce accountability for attendance, performance, and safety requirements.
- Support achievement of On-Time Delivery objectives through effective execution of the production schedule.
- Support achievement of quality objectives through adherence to procedures, work instructions, and training
- Develop and maintain a cross-trained workforce capable of supporting production demands.
- Ensure staffing, training, and labor assignments align with production requirements.
- Escalate production, quality, maintenance, material, and staffing issues in a timely manner.
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
- CNC machining experience in a production environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate employees in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of machining processes, tooling, setups, and production flow.
- Previous supervisory or lead machinist experience.
- Experience with CNC turning and milling operations.
- Aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing experience.
- Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing software.
