Position:Major Gifts Officer

Classification:Exempt/Full-time

The Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio of major donors to support the mission and strategic priorities of the organization. This role focuses on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individuals capable of making significant philanthropic contributions. The MGO works closely with the Executive Director, Campaign Counsel, and Board members to advance fundraising goals and deepen donor engagement.

Key Responsibilities Donor Relationship Building & Campaign Engagement
  • Cultivate authentic, long-term relationships with major donors, foundations, and community partners who care deeply about the wellbeing of children.
  • Conduct regular donor visits, call and meaningful, highly personalized touchpoints (12–15 per month) designed to build trust, connection, and shared purpose.
  • Communicate the case for support in a compelling, personal, and mission-driven way that highlights ABC House’s vital role in child abuse assessment, intervention, and healing.
  • Guide donors through all stages of the campaign, ensuring they feel informed, appreciated, and connected to ABC House’s impact.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 100–150 major gift prospects and donors.
  • Develop individualized donor engagement plans that align donors’ passions with ABC House’s mission and campaign priorities.
  • Partner with program staff to create meaningful engagement opportunities, such as impact briefings, small group gatherings or meetings with staff and leadership.
  • Ensure thoughtful, personalized stewardship through customized thank‑yous, impact reports, and pledge follow‑up.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling funding proposals, presentations, and impact reports.
  • Meet annual revenue goals as part of the development team’s fundraising plan.
Collaboration With Executive Director, Campaign Counsel & Leadership
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to prepare for donor meetings, craft strategy, and coordinate relationship‑building efforts.
  • Collaborate with campaign counsel on prospect research, campaign planning, donor strategy sessions, and leadership gift development.
  • Support board members and campaign volunteers in serving as key connectors.
  • Contribute to campaign planning, annual fundraising strategies, and long‑range development initiatives.
Prospect Identification & Community Engagement
  • Help identify and qualify new major donor prospects within Linn and Benton Counties.
  • Engage the local community through events, presentations, and personal outreach to build awareness of ABC House’s mission.
  • Work with staff and volunteers to map relationships and expand ABC House’s network of supporters.
Reporting, Administration & Donor Stewardship
  • Maintain detailed and accurate donor records, interaction notes, and next steps in the CRM and Smartsheets.
  • Assist with pledge documentation, reporting, and stewardship planning.
  • Support the Executive Director with donor proposals, donor communications and tracking/recording donor engagement.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of nonprofit fundraising or relationship-focused experience (major gifts experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with donors or clients.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, listening skills, and a donor-centered approach.
  • Ability to communicate ABC House’s mission, vision, and campaign priorities in a compelling and personalized way.
  • Comfortable working closely with Executive Directors/CEOs, high-net-worth individuals, volunteer leaders, and campaign counsel.
  • Excellent organizational skills and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working on a capital or comprehensive campaign.
  • Familiarity with donor database systems.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, children’s services, or human services sectors (preferred but not required).
  • Passion for supporting children and families facing trauma.
