The RoleOur Service Technicians provide customers with the fuel needed for a warm, safe environment. Technicians troubleshoot gas appliances, install and maintain metering equipment, respond to emergencies and provide excellent customer service. The position as a trainee includes an intensive 24‑month training program after hire and the opportunity to advance within the company.
Day to Day- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of Customer Field Services Policy and Procedures and applicable codes.
- Activate, inspect, diagnose customer-owned appliances and equipment, and install and maintain company‑owned meter sets.
- Adjust air/gas inputs for safe and efficient combustion.
- Install, activate, modify, maintain, and remove gas metering and regulating equipment up to 2.0 psig delivery pressure.
- Respond to gas leakage and emergency situations.
- Perform shift work including weekends and holidays.
- Complete non‑technical work such as meter turn‑offs, rereads, ERT investigations, and replacements.
- Assist and provide feedback to less‑experienced workers under supervisory direction.
- Wear required company‑issued protective equipment and safety gear.
- Operate company vehicles in compliance with state/local laws and policies.
- Acquire and maintain Oregon qualifications.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully in all interactions with customers and coworkers.
- Follow supervisory instructions and adapt to changing conditions.
- Maintain punctual, regular, and reliable attendance.
- Demonstrate the company’s core values and comply with all policies and procedures.
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and ability in mechanical, electrical or construction work.
- Proficient use of hand tools and ability to read gauges, piping, and pressure gauges.
- Manual dexterity for effective tool use.
- Problem‑diagnosing ability with follow‑through solutions.
- Detection of natural gas or diesel vapors.
- Basic math and reading capability.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Prioritization and adaptation to changing workload.
- Computer data entry and retrieval.
- Ability to communicate with employees and customers tactfully.
- Concentration on tasks and decision‑making with limited information.
- Physical endurance for up to 8+ hours of walking, standing, bending, twisting, lifting, squatting, and kneeling.
- Comfortable working in adverse weather or terrain.
- Safe operation of company vehicles and equipment, including inspections and minor maintenance.
- Valid Oregon or Washington driver’s license with satisfactory driving record; must obtain Oregon/Washington license within 90 days if from another state.
- Safe use of ladders and ability to climb to at least 50 feet.
- Capability to lift a maximum of 60 lbs.
- Exposure to confined spaces as defined by the company’s program.
- Subject to random drug testing.
- Response to assigned Resource Center within 40 minutes.
Training Program: 24 months
Qualification Period: 24 months
Hourly Rate: $40.84
