Grading / Pipe Foreman

Location: Albemarle, NC
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Grading / Pipe Foreman to lead field crews on heavy civil and highway construction projects in the Albemarle, NC area.

This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong experience in grading, underground pipe installation, crew supervision, jobsite coordination, safety, and construction plan interpretation. The ideal candidate must be able to manage daily field operations while maintaining productivity, quality, and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and lead grading and pipe crews on heavy civil and highway construction projects.
  • Plan and sequence pipe installation and grading activities to maintain efficient project progress.
  • Assign daily work to crew members and coordinate labor, materials, and equipment.
  • Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, grades, and project drawings.
  • Coordinate work with other foremen, subcontractors, inspectors, DOT personnel, and project management.
  • Maintain accurate daily records of crew hours, materials used, equipment utilization, and production activities.
  • Operate and oversee pipe-laying and related grading equipment.
  • Inspect equipment and ensure it is operating safely and properly.
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance, cleaning, and minor equipment repairs.
  • Train crew members on proper equipment operation, work procedures, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor jobsite conditions and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ensure trenching, excavation, grading, and pipe installation activities are performed safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate field conditions, project requirements, material needs, and production updates to management.
  • Maintain quality and productivity standards throughout the project.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience as a Grade Foreman, Pipe Foreman, or Grading/Pipe Foreman in the heavy civil and/or highway construction industry.
  • Strong hands-on experience with grading and underground pipe installation
    .
  • Proven ability to supervise and direct construction crews.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
  • Experience scheduling and coordinating employees, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, crew members, subcontractors, inspectors, and DOT personnel.
  • Experience operating pipe-laying and related construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of construction safety procedures and active-jobsite safety requirements.
  • GPS / machine-control experience.
  • Erosion Control Level I or Level II certification.
  • Trenching & Excavation Competent Person training.
  • Work Zone Safety Supervisor certification.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the office and assigned jobsites.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and situational awareness.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, onsite field position based in the Albemarle, NC area. The successful candidate must be comfortable working outdoors, supervising crews, operating construction equipment, and working around active construction operations.
