Position Summary

The Financial Cost Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the financial and operational performance of a metal manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for cost accounting, inventory valuation, production analysis, and operational reporting to ensure accurate product costing and profitability across machining, fabrication, welding, stamping, casting, or other metal manufacturing processes.

The role partners closely with Operations, Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Plant Leadership to provide actionable insights related to material utilization, labor efficiency, scrap reduction, inventory management, and manufacturing cost control. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and accounting skills with a hands‑on understanding of manufacturing environments and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and reconcile inventory, production, and financial systems to ensure accurate reporting of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
  • Develop, review, and maintain standard costs for metal components, assemblies, purchased materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Analyze material, labor, overhead, and production variances, identifying trends and opportunities to improve profitability
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly cost performance reports with detailed variance analysis and recommendations
  • Investigate unfavorable manufacturing variances, including scrap, rework, yield losses, machine downtime, and labor inefficiencies
  • Support month‑end close activities, inventory valuation, and financial reporting processes
Manufacturing & Operational Support
  • Assist in annual budgeting, forecasting, and cost planning initiatives.
  • Evaluate production performance and manufacturing efficiency metrics, including labor utilization, machine productivity, OEE, throughput, and yield.
  • Monitor raw material consumption, metal recovery rates, scrap generation, and inventory accuracy.
  • Partner with production, engineering, and plant leadership teams to develop and track key manufacturing KPIs.
  • Analyze BOMs, routings, work center rates, and production processes to ensure accurate product costing.
  • Support capital investment analysis, automation projects, and operational improvement initiatives.
Inventory & Cost Control
  • Coordinate and support physical inventories, cycle count programs, and inventory reconciliation activities.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and identify opportunities to reduce excess, obsolete, or slow‑moving inventory.
  • Analyze material pricing fluctuations and their impact on product costs and margins.
  • Ensure compliance with inventory control procedures and costing methodologies.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for:
    • Cost reduction
    • Scrap reduction
    • Process improvement
    • Inventory optimization
    • Manufacturing efficiency enhancements
    • Margin improvement initiatives
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams to implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement projects
  • Serve as a financial resource for plant management, providing guidance on cost management, operational metrics, and financial reporting
  • Assist supervisors and department managers in understanding manufacturing costs and operational performance
  • Prepare weekly management reports, KPI dashboards, and Controller reporting packages
  • Provide backup support for production accounting and inventory‑related activities
  • Support the Controller and Finance team with special projects and business improvement initiatives
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in cost accounting, manufacturing finance, financial analysis, or a related role within a manufacturing environment
  • Experience supporting metal manufacturing operations such as machining, fabrication, stamping, forging, casting, welding, or assembly preferred
  • Strong understanding of
    • costing BOMs and routing structures
    • inventory management and controls
    • manufacturing variance analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP/MRP systems
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively to both financial and operational stakeholders
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement methodologies, and operational performance metrics
  • Experience working with production, engineering, and supply chain teams in a manufacturing environment preferred
