New Mexico United is seeking a detail-driven Part-Time Accounting & Payroll Specialist to support our Finance operations. Reporting directly to the Controller and working closely with the Chief of Staff, this role plays a key part in ensuring payroll accuracy, financial integrity, and smooth day-to-day accounting operations.

This position is approximately 20 hours per week and is ideal for an experienced accounting professional seeking meaningful work in a fast-paced professional sports environment.

Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Manage full-cycle accounts payable
  • Review invoices, process payments, and manage vendor accounts
  • Support accounts receivable processing and tracking
  • Identify and resolve invoice and vendor discrepancies
Payroll & HR Support
  • Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time
  • Maintain payroll confidentiality and compliance
  • Prepare and distribute monthly PTO balance reports to Directors
  • Post and balance general ledger entries
  • Prepare and reconcile accounts (excluding bank reconciliations unless assigned)
  • Assist with month-end close processes
  • Support budget monitoring and internal financial reporting
  • Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with internal financial policies
Analytical & Administrative Support
  • Research and resolve financial discrepancies
  • Analyze financial data using trial balance reports
  • Ensure all checks are deposited separately and recorded promptly in accounting software
  • Support the Controller and Chief of Staff with additional finance and administrative projects as needed
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate’s or higher preferred)
  • Minimum 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related experience
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Demonstrated time management skills in a deadline-driven environment
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding financial and payroll information
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Personable, professional, and team-oriented
  • Self-starter who uses initiative and is resourceful
