New Mexico United is seeking a detail-driven Part-Time Accounting & Payroll Specialist to support our Finance operations. Reporting directly to the Controller and working closely with the Chief of Staff, this role plays a key part in ensuring payroll accuracy, financial integrity, and smooth day-to-day accounting operations.
This position is approximately 20 hours per week and is ideal for an experienced accounting professional seeking meaningful work in a fast-paced professional sports environment.
Responsibilities Accounts Payable & Receivable- Manage full-cycle accounts payable
- Review invoices, process payments, and manage vendor accounts
- Support accounts receivable processing and tracking
- Identify and resolve invoice and vendor discrepancies
- Process biweekly payroll accurately and on time
- Maintain payroll confidentiality and compliance
- Prepare and distribute monthly PTO balance reports to Directors
- Post and balance general ledger entries
- Prepare and reconcile accounts (excluding bank reconciliations unless assigned)
- Assist with month-end close processes
- Support budget monitoring and internal financial reporting
- Ensure transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with internal financial policies
- Research and resolve financial discrepancies
- Analyze financial data using trial balance reports
- Ensure all checks are deposited separately and recorded promptly in accounting software
- Support the Controller and Chief of Staff with additional finance and administrative projects as needed
- High School Diploma or GED (Associate’s or higher preferred)
- Minimum 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or related experience
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Demonstrated time management skills in a deadline-driven environment
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding financial and payroll information
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Personable, professional, and team-oriented
- Self-starter who uses initiative and is resourceful
