Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to provide dependable accounting support for a busy tax and accounting office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This Long-term Contract opportunity is an onsite, part-time position offering approximately 32 hours per week and focuses on maintaining accurate financial records for a portfolio of client accounts rather than tax preparation. The person in this role will work closely with office leadership to keep bookkeeping activities organized, timely, and aligned with client needs.

Responsibilities:

- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities for multiple client accounts, ensuring financial records remain complete and current.

- Prepare and post journal entries, maintain general ledger accuracy, and support consistent accounting documentation.

- Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including tracking transactions and resolving routine discrepancies.

- Perform monthly reconciliations and assist with month-end close tasks to deliver accurate financial reporting.

- Support full-cycle accounting functions across a range of clients in a small office environment.

- Partner with the Office Manager and firm leadership to address accounting issues, prioritize workloads, and meet reporting deadlines.

- Review financial data for accuracy and follow up on missing or inconsistent information to maintain dependable books. Requirements - Experience in staff accounting or senior accounting roles with hands-on bookkeeping responsibility.

- Working knowledge of journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close procedures.

- Practical experience managing both accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.

- Background in full-cycle accounting within a client service, public accounting, or multi-entity environment.

- Ability to manage several sets of books simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail.

- Comfortable working onsite in Albuquerque, New Mexico in a part-time schedule of approximately 32 hours per week.

- Familiarity with corporate tax return support is helpful, though the primary focus of this role is ongoing bookkeeping.
