The Range Control Scheduler is responsible for planning, scheduling, coordinating, and deconflicting training, testing, and operational activities conducted on military training ranges and associated facilities. The position serves as the central coordination point between range users, range operations personnel, safety offices, installation leadership, and external agencies to ensure efficient utilization of range resources while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and operational requirements.
Responsibilitiesinclude
- Scheduling and Coordination
- Manage the daily, weekly, monthly, and long-range scheduling of training ranges, facilities, airspace, and training support assets.
- Coordinate range requests from military units, government agencies, contractors, and authorized external users.
- Resolve scheduling conflicts and recommend priorities based on command guidance and mission requirements.
- Maintain and update automated range scheduling systems and databases.
- Publish approved range schedules and distribute notifications to stakeholders.
- Range Operations Support
- Coordinate with Range Control personnel to ensure facilities are available, inspected, and prepared for scheduled events.
- Monitor range utilization and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and maximize resource availability.
- Support real-time schedule adjustments due to weather, operational changes, emergencies, or higher-priority missions.
- Maintain situational awareness of ongoing range activities.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the primary point of contact for scheduling inquiries and requests.
- Coordinate with installation operations centers, training commands, safety offices, environmental personnel, and tenant organizations.
- Facilitate scheduling meetings and planning conferences with range users and leadership.
- Provide scheduling reports, utilization metrics, and recommendations to management.
- Compliance and Documentation
- Verify scheduled activities comply with installation regulations, range safety requirements, environmental restrictions, and applicable directives.
- Maintain records of scheduling actions, approvals, cancellations, and utilization statistics.
- Ensure required documentation, certifications, and approvals are received prior to scheduling activities.
- Support inspections, audits, and readiness assessments.
- Reporting and Analysis
- Generate utilization reports, trend analyses, and scheduling forecasts.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to range usage and availability.
- Identify scheduling bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
- Prepare executive summaries and briefings for leadership.
- Familiarity with Emergency Communications Center (ECC) operations and a basic working knowledge of radio and telephone systems.
- Must be adept at operating in high-tempo, high-stress environments, including emergency responses (e.g., wildland fires, medical emergencies).
- Experience supporting military training operations, range operations, installation operations, or scheduling functions.
- Knowledge of military training range procedures and scheduling processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with scheduling, resource management, or training management systems.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Prior military service or experience working on a military installation.
- Basic 9-1-1 Communications Officer National Certification
- Familiarity with installation range management systems such as:
- Range Facility Management Support System (RFMSS)
- Training Support System Enterprise Architecture (TSS-EA)
- Other Department of Defense scheduling systems
- Knowledge of range safety regulations and training support operations.
- Experience coordinating joint, interagency, or multi-service training events.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
- Secret Security Clearance
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- May require occasional shift work, extended hours, or support during major exercises and contingency operations.
