Responsibilities- Applies the General Records Schedule or National Archives and Records Administration approved Agency Records Schedule to all official records.
- Provides technical advice and assistance to the USAO staff with respect to individual, or case-related, records management issues in conformance with policy, guidelines, and regulations.
- Ensures case management or other records systems accurately follow Federal Records Center guidance.
- Determines incoming cases or legal actions requiring special handling and makes appropriate referral prior to coding and data entry.
- Serves as the backup to the docketing technician.
- Receives and reviews the necessary documentation required and opens all criminal and civil cases.
- Develops and publishes USAO records management and control policies and procedures.
- Evaluates USAO records management control systems and procedures regarding the effective handling, sorting, and/or disposing of Federal records.
- Provides advisory services to USAO supervisors and managers. Advisory services include the spectrum of records management issues to include maintaining information about records movement and storage, destruction, transfer, or other disposition.
- Oversees and prepares case files to be sent to the Federal Records Center (FRC) annually. Works with AUSAs to ensure non-records are removed and case files are in proper format prior to being sent to the FRC. As necessary, orders case files from the FRC.
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, which includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
To be qualified at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least one of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience, Education, or a combination of Education and Experience.
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience performing projects and assignments involving official records including official electronic media; maintaining file arrangement systems, filing procedures, and filing techniques of official records; entering information into an electronic record-keeping system; organizing and archiving physical and electronic files; retrieving information using query routines or from hard copy reports;
and reviewing legal documents to determine appropriate coding and data entry.
One of the following types of education in a related field: one full year of graduate level education in related field (e.g., Business Management, Public Administration or Computer Science) leading to a Master's degree or higher; or a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement. Superior academic achievement is as follows: standing in the upper third of your graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies;
or Grade Point Average. Applicants must have a grade point average of: (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.
