Office Assistant – Department of Communication & Journalism
The Department of Communication & Journalism is seeking a motivated and professional student to assist with front office operations for the academic year with a chance of renewal. You'll gain hands‑on experience with administrative tasks, front‑desk operations, AV operations and office organization, all while contributing to an exciting and student‑focused department.
Responsibilities- Manage the main office and/or AV office
- Assist visitors, students, faculty, and staff
- File and organize documents and files
- Manage mail distribution
- Maintain inventory of office supplies
- Copy and scan documents
- Run daily errands to a variety of office locations on main campus
- General support of faculty, staff, and students within the department
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned
- Enrolled in a degree‑seeking program at UNM
- Enrolled at least half‑time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count)
- Must meet satisfactory academic progress guidelines (if work‑study)
- Basic computer skills
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Printer/copier experience
- Office work experience
- Experience supporting students, staff, faculty, and office environments (tech support, event sign‑ins, flyers, emails, etc.)
- Comfortable answering phones, greeting guests, or managing front‑desk and AV office spaces
- Proficiency with basic computer tasks such as typing, document formatting, using Adobe, Canva, and Microsoft Office
- Understanding or willingness to learn camera equipment checkout processes and classroom technology troubleshooting
- Strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, ability to stay organized, and follow through with assigned tasks
- Positive professional mindset
- Ability to work at least four days a week (more days/hours encouraged within work‑study guidelines)
Work‑Study qualified individuals who can work in two to four‑hour blocks of time.
