Overview

The Laborer performs duties that include assisting journeyman trades with all aspects of highway structures and roadway demolition and construction. Typical duties involve on site preparation, earthwork trenching, removing debris from the project site, climbing on ladders and scaffolding, carrying materials weighing up to 60 pounds and other duties as assigned. The Laborer uses hand tools and power tools and will operate hand‑held equipment such as a jack hammer or earth tamper.

The laborer may work with various construction crews and will participate in asphalt paving, concrete placement, form fabrication and traffic control. The laborer will travel frequently in order to accommodate various project work schedules.

Responsibilities
  • Assist journeyman trades with highway and roadway construction and demolition.
  • Perform site prep, earthwork, trenching, and debris removal.
  • Handle and carry materials up to 60 pounds; climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and handheld equipment (jackhammer, tamper).
  • Support asphalt paving, concrete placement, and form work.
  • Help with traffic control setup and safety procedures.
  • Travel frequently to various project sites and work flexible hours.
Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to understand and follow traffic control plans and safety procedures.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with drivers, coworkers, and supervisors.
  • Basic knowledge of road construction safety practices and traffic laws.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift equipment, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and focused in a high‑risk environment.
  • Dependability and punctuality.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
