Position: Plan Checker (Planning - Building & Safety)

Position Summary

Review a variety of construction plans, agreements, proposals and specifications for compliance with established codes, regulations and ordinances; inspect project sites for future construction work; and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Perform plan checking activities; examine construction plans, proposals, agreements and specifications for compliance with established codes, regulations and ordinances; approve plans as needed.

Perform on-site inspections for compliance with approved plans, specifications and standards; provide information to contractors and architects in the interpretation of applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.

Coordinate plan checking activities with other departments; transmit plans, comments and specifications to appropriate departments, divisions or outside consultants.

Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public regarding construction projects; provide information within the assigned area.

Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends in the field of plans examination and code compliance.

Establish and maintain a system of log sheets and files to track current status of projects; file approved plans, agreements and specifications.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis. Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction technology; and Five (5) years of experience in any combination of the following areas:

construction plan checking
building construction
construction contract management
right-of-way regulations for permitting requirements
