This role is ideal for students looking to gain hands‑on experience creating content for a digital news platform, Brant One ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).). This is a great opportunity to get your work published while supporting an organization that helps New Mexicans pay and plan for college. Journalism, Communications, and English majors are highly encouraged to apply.
Primary Duties- Pitch and write original news articles, features, or multimedia stories.
- Contribute photography to accompany stories or editorial assignments.
- Assist with researching and gathering information for ongoing stories.
- Conduct interviews (phone, video, or in‑person).
- Support fact‑checking and proofreading processes.
- Collaborate with editors and multimedia teams.
- Attend department meetings and contribute story ideas.
- Help manage content for digital platforms and social media.
- Monitor current events, with particular attention to New Mexico, and propose relevant story ideas.
- Enrolled in a degree‑seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half‑time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, must meet satisfactory academic progress.
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or related field.
- Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills.
- Curiosity and passion for news, current events, and media.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Basic understanding of AP Style.
- Familiarity with digital tools (e.g., CMS platforms, social media, Google Docs).
