Responsibilities
  • Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures.
  • Take and develop dental radiographs (x-rays).
  • Ask about the patient's medical history and take blood pressure and pulse.
  • Serve as an infection control officer, developing infection control protocol and preparing and sterilizing instruments and equipment.
  • Help patients feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment.
  • Provide patients with instructions for oral care following surgery or other dental treatment procedures, such as the placement of a restoration (filling).
  • Teach patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
  • Qualifications
  • Dental Assistant certification, where required by state law.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of dental procedures and terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a focus on patient care.
  • Experience with dental practice management software.
  • A degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a focus on Excel.
  • Familiarity with financial software systems.
  • Knowledge of dental insurance billing and coding.
