Position Summary
The LLSS Department invites applications for an Assistant Professor position to become part of the Educational Thought and Sociocultural Studies (ETSS) program. The candidate's research and teaching experience will reflect preparation in educational foundations, and indicate a specialization in Black/Africana Studies in education, as well as familiarity with Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, and Globalization Education.
The successful candidate will have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. in Educational Foundations, Black/Africana Studies, or related fields before Fall 2026. The successful candidate will have a reduced course load for two years, before assuming a full course load (2/2) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including educational foundations content courses (e.g., Decolonial Thinking, Feminist Epistemologies, Paulo Freire, Critical Race Theory, Globalization and Education, Sociology of Education), LLSS core curriculum (e.g., Seminar in Educational Studies and Dissertation Seminar), and preservice educator preparation courses (e.g., School and Society, Teaching Secondary Social Studies, and Secondary Social Studies Methods, Foundations of Anti-Racist Pedagogy).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
* An earned doctorate in Educational Foundations, Black/Africana Studies or related fields by August 2026.
* Scholarly evidence of Educational Foundations and Black Studies expertise
Preferred Qualifications:
* Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
* At least three years of secondary social studies/humanities teaching experience and/or related experiences in U.S. settings or in accredited international schools.
* Excellence or potential for excellence in scholarly research and publishing in Educational Foundations, Black Studies in education, Secondary Social Studies/Humanities Education, and/or related fields.
* Robust and current formal academic preparation/advanced study in Educational Foundations and Black/Africana Studies.
* Excellence or the potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Educational Thought and Sociocultural Studies and Secondary Social Studies/Humanities Education.
* Ability or the potential to advise and direct graduate work.
* Interest in and commitment to a community engaged approach to outreach and collaboration with communities and Indigenous Nations in the Southwest.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
