TEACHER: PAR CONSULTING - SECONDARY SPECIAL EDUCATION (2026-27SY)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provides interventions through The Peer Assistance and Review Program (PAR) for teachers having difficulties in the performance of their professional responsibilities. Is an experienced mentor teacher and professional colleague released full-time from the classroom to provide this non-evaluative support for teachers including collaborative lesson planning, modeling, observations with feedback and reflection in multiple grade levels and disciplines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:
* Work with teachers experiencing difficulties in performance of their professional job responsibilities in order of priority as Teachers on Intensive Evaluation, Teachers on an Improvement Plan, or Teachers who Volunteer and are approved.
* Document work and communicate with the school principal, the teacher, and the APS/ATF PAR Panel to provide consistent shared updates of the teacher's progress including written and oral reports of progress to PAR Panel.
* Participate in ongoing development for the intervention program and assistance in writing program guidelines as needed.
* Collaborate with peers on drafts of reports and presentations to the PAR Panel.
* Participate in weekly meetings to brainstorm strategies for struggling teachers and improve coaching skills.
* Participate in training on coaching or other topics.
* Research interventions and differentiates their application with clients.
* Assist with Mentor Program by contributing expertise and experience if CTs do not have a full intervention load. This may include, but is not limited to the following as directed by the program coordinator:
Mediate conflicts between mentors and beginning teachers
* Participate in interviews for new mentors
* Review and respond to documentation from mentors
* Mentor Beginning Teachers
* Outreach in schools and monitoring of beginning teachers and mentors
* May assist with implementing of professional development for monthly mentor meetings
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND
EXPERIENCE:
The minimum expectations for this job are as follows:
* Demonstrates extensive written and oral communication skills.
* Exceptional classroom management skills and full understanding of current content and pedagogy.
* Ability to script complex classroom interactions, linking the standards with both what was observed to be present and what was observed to be missing.
* Leadership experience with adults in a school setting with a strong grasp of emotional, cognitive and motivational needs of adult learners.
* Ability to overcome resistance and break through denial of clients.
* Ability to handle disagreements and conflict.
* Ability to stay highly organized and to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Strong initiative and ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
* Reflective and flexible working style, with a strong desire to learn and accept new challenges.
* Ability to work cooperatively and receive feedback from professional staff members.
* Willing to model a demonstration lesson as part of application process (live/video).
REQUIREMENTS:
The minimum requirements for this job are as follows:
* Level III license in either Regular Education (300) or Special Education (400).
* Minimum of ten years' classroom teaching experience.
* Previous mentoring experience in the Mentor Program:
An APS/ATF Partnership or CSP in the ATF National Board Program or other instructional coaching experience.
