Open Rank Lecturer II/III in Secondary Education
The Department of Teacher Education, Educational Leadership, and Policy (TEELP) invites applications for a Lecturer II/III position to become part of the Secondary Education program and work with undergraduate and graduate students in TEELP. The candidate’s research and teaching experience will reflect preparation in secondary education Math and/or Science with a specialization in urban and/or rural and Indigenous settings as well as with Martinez/Yazzie student populations:
Hispanic, Indigenous, Economically Disadvantaged, Multilingual, Special Needs. The successful candidate will have a completed master’s degree (Lecturer II) and/or completed Ph.D. or Ed.D. (Lecturer III) in math and/or science education, curriculum and instruction, and/or closely related fields by the starting date of the appointment. The successful candidate will have experience teaching math and/or science within secondary education (6-12) and working with the various student populations that represent New Mexico:
Hispanic, Indigenous, Economically Disadvantaged, Multilingual, Special Needs. Experience with program development, particularly related to STEM secondary education, is also preferred.
- Earned M.A./M.S./M.Ed. and/or doctorate from an accredited university in MATH AND/OR SCIENCE Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a closely related field. All requirements for the doctorate must have been completed by the time of the start date of the appointment.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Secondary MATH AND/OR SCIENCE educator (6-12).
- Experience with a variety of course delivery methods.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching MATH AND/OR SCIENCE in public secondary (grades 6-12) schools in urban, rural, or high need districts.
- Demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
- Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in teaching courses in Secondary MATH AND/OR SCIENCE education, MATH AND/OR SCIENCE methods, or related.
- Ability to propose and develop innovative courses and programs that support professional learning for teachers around MATH AND/OR SCIENCE that would also be embraced as relevant and timely for the Peoples of New Mexico.
- Experience with and/or knowledge of MATH AND/OR SCIENCE education in urban and/or rural and Indigenous settings as well as with Yazzie/Martinez student populations for 5 plus years:
Hispanic, Indigenous, Economically Disadvantaged, Multilingual, Special Needs.
