Organization: APS - East San Jose Elementary School

Location: 415 Thaxton SE, Albuquerque, NM 87102

Position Summary: This off‑campus work study position requires a Work Study Award. The tutor will provide reading, writing, and math support under the direction of first‑grade teachers, delivering direct instruction, guided practice and games to students at K‑5 levels. Responsibilities include small‑group instruction, supporting socio‑emotional development and academic success.

Minimum Qualifications: Enrolled in a degree‑seeking program at UNM, at least half‑time (6 hours) during fall and spring semesters, and if Work Study, meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

• Passed APS background check.
• Read, write, and follow directions in English (or Spanish) or both.
• Serve as a role model with appropriate language and behavior.
• Reliable and available 3–5 times a week at consistent times (flexible by semester).
• Available for a short training session, possibly on a Saturday, and ongoing training during teachers’ prep times.
• Tolerant and respectful of different cultural perspectives.
• Willing to use positive discipline techniques.
• Willing to follow classroom procedures and rules.
• Stay off cellphone while with students.
• English speakers: available 11:40 am – 2:40 pm (or 3:40 pm during Genius Hour).
• Spanish speakers: available 8:00 am – 11:00 am.
• Patient with a positive attitude.
• Able to ask questions.
• Hardworking and self‑directed.
