SUMMARY

The Educational Support Professional works with and supports individual students as well as small groups of students, under the direction of the classroom teacher.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides assistance and carries out the instructions of the classroom teacher to promote a supportive and nurturing learning environment.
  • Monitors individual and/or groups of students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments (lunch, bus arrivals/dismissals, playground, classrooms, restrooms, field trips, assemblies, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Tutors students in a variety of subjects.
  • Assists teacher with class preparation.
  • Prepares individual materials to be sent home as instructed by the teacher.
  • Models and maintains discipline procedures and rules established by the teacher.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Participates in staff development sessions for educational support personnel.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
  • SKILLS
    • Knowledge of business English, spelling, and mathematics.
    • General working knowledge of standard office equipment.
    • Spanish/English bilingual fluency preferred.

    Ability to move objects weighing up to pounds about the office on a constant basis; ability to constantly position self throughout the work day at heights up to 5 feet using varied methods; ability to remain in a stationary position for periods of up to 3 hours; ability to communicate with and exchange accurate information with students, coworkers, parents, and the public.

    QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:
    • Required – High school diploma and Associates degree or semester hours from an accredited higher education institution in a related field.
    • Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Required – Successful completion of blood borne pathogen training within the first year of employment.
    • Preferred – Two years of current work experience with school-aged children in a school environment, as well as successful completion of blood borne pathogen training within the first year of employment.
