** STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
** Incumbent will create and maintain a safe, positive learning environment to ensure the holistic development of each student and staff member through cultural, social, spiritual, physical and academic experience. Incumbent will support the Bureau of Indian Education’s mission, which is to provide high quality education opportunities from early childhood through life while considering a tribe’s need for cultural and economic well-being.

In performing this mission, the BIE takes into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of school-aged children within their family and tribal community. To meet its trust responsibility to Indian Tribes, BIE works to strengthen education opportunities for American Indian students to be successful and competitive globally; to enhance student participation in their tribal communities; and support tribes in nation-building, in development of the next generation of tribal leaders.

Responsibilities:

The Education Technician assists classroom teachers by providing instructional support and assistance in meeting the educational needs of students. Responsibilities include, but not limited to:  
• Aid students in small groups and one on one. Reinforce skills instruction.  
• Supervise students in the classroom, playground, lunchroom, and other areas.  
• Prepare instructional materials as directed.  
• Observe students to insure proper behavior and safety. Reports inappropriate behavior to the teacher and follows school procedures to Intervene in inappropriate student behavior.  
• Assists with preparation and organization of education materials used in the classroom and school.  
• Secures and maintains classroom supplies and assists in the development of classroom displays and training aids.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

** Combination of the following education and experience is the minimum qualifications:

Completed at least 48 semester hours of study at an institution of higher education, OR met a rigorous standard of quality, demonstrated through a formal State or local academic assessment test, plus 1 year of experience. Assessment test should demonstrate knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics; (or, if appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, or mathematics readiness).Experience

should be in the same line of work or one which is basically similar to the education position the employee is being placed in.
